I’m a big proponent of mental health providers. Thankfully, the stigma that goes along with them is slowly starting to change. Psychological health is just as important as physical health, and deserves the same care and attention — especially when it comes to children.

The facts show that women are drastically more likely to seek therapy than men. This means that moms are more likely to initiate an appointment, and it’s not uncommon for dads to be skeptical. But no matter who is on board and who would rather take the “wait and see” approach, if you think your child needs to be tested or see a professional, let no one stand in your way.

Keep this in mind with your pediatrician, too. Pediatricians are trained to care for your child’s physiological health, not necessarily his or her mental health. Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t.
